Dump Cakes, Dump Dinners…Cooks Taking A Dump

ZZZdump-cakes-large-9

With my best  Governor Hoss Christie leadership skills, I am giving all the people who read my writings on my blog and Facebook “friends” ONE HOUR TO TELL THE TRUTH. I want to know if you were stupid enough to buy DUMP CAKES, DUMP DINNERS RECIPE BOOKS AND THE ORGANIC FRY PAN ….ALL FOR TEN DOLLARS.

Once I find out I will unfriend you from Facebook and ban you from my blog for being the dumbest human being on this planet. If you are a mother of children and thought that throwing ground beef out of the package and in a big lump without separating it and adding crap to it is cuisine, I’m also calling Child Welfare Services in your state and reporting your abuse. If you think pouring cake mix and adding can soda and dried fruit to a pan is dessert, I will send Dennis Rodman to your house to live with you and talk politics.

Even the marketers of this product are not hiding the facts from you. No one would use the word “dump” with food to associate it with crap ….if it wasn’t crap….get a clue. That is what it is people…..CRAP dinners, and Crap deserts from a Crap cook who threw shit in a pan in 3 minutes and served it to you. Yum Yum.

So fess up and then I am DUMPING you forever from my life.

  3. I have seen the commercial but agree you cant dump dinners in a pan.Even hamburger helper needs stirring which I gross anyway. I like home cooked meals and if you cant spend quality time making them then get carry out. I do have a great dump cake recipe that is fast and fabulous but I truly enjoy feeding my family home cooked meals. Try using crock pots. You can make fabulous meals all while you are at work and its ready when you get home. Thanks for the tips.

    • Thank you Nancy….I fully agree with your comment…I am sure there are a few deserts that can be made this way…but dinners? No way…..I agree you can’t just throw hamburger meat in a pan and not separate it…the look and texture changes…..crock pots are still the best way like you said for ready made dinners.

      • There is one “dump dinner” I make and my whole family loves and devours it! Put a few pats of butter in a 9 x 13 long glass baking dish. Put skinless, boneless chicken breasts ( I cut them up into long strips) from one end of glass dish to the other end. Pour a large can of string beans from one end to the other and then lay cut up baby red potatoes from one end to the other. It should be all one layer, not one ingredient on top of another. Then sprinkle on some (I use two packets) Good Seasonings Italian Dressing Mix, salt and pepper if desired. Place in 350 oven for 1 hour….One dish, and one happy happy family! 🙂

  4. Let me tell you several things. After 30 yesrs of marriage I have observed most families do eat box cakes. Also most middle american families do not even eat dinners as fancy or costly as dump dinners. Most women are not from scratch cooks. Women no longer have home ecimomics like I had in the 1960’s. Have you all priced everything you would need to cook from scratch ?? Get off your self ritous horse.

    • Totally agree Mary Ford most parents today send their kids to fast food places anyway, not many cooks in the homes any more. I’m from the 50’s generation and yes my mother cooked from scratch , as I did for awhile and thank god for box cake mixes, box bread mixes etc . Well we can improve time for cooking , but not high horse STUPIDITY

  5. dear Brookman, i fully agree with You and fully enjoyed your blog 🙂 this ‘dump’ recipe concept, although i find it hysterical, its ridiculous. its no excuse to say that you dont have time or the money to provide oneself or one’s family with a healthy, simple, quick, and delicious home-cooked meal. im a wife, ‘home-grown’ gourmet chef (now licensed), FT biz owner and in process of an MBA. its dangerous to put raw meat in with other products of both wet and dry to create what this is trying to call a ‘ meal’ since its unknown if everything will cook evenly. if a restaurant chef was caught pulling a shortcut like this, he/she would be fired in a heartbeat. its sad and true that many American families have succumb to the concept of box dinners, but thats media for ya! they make it look wonderful when in reality they’re no better than a fast food joint. its SO simple and healthier to cook from scratch or half scatch as well as doing it properly! its just freakin common sense so get a clue people! ever heard of Rachel Rays 30 minute meals or $10 dinners on Food Network?? im not even a fan of either program, but the ideas of quick and SAFE and inexpensive are there. id take a greasy piece of crap McDonalds hamburger over a dump meal anyday. like Brookman said.. its named Dump because its crap! with a little creativity and inspiration its totally possible to deliver amazing food. now im fully expecting negative comments to blast my posting.

      • You’re more than welcome. And thank you for the compliment. I can’t say my food is amazing (I’m no Iron Chef), but my hubby and many others that I’ve fed (especially during the holidays) haven’t yet complained ;). I don’t usually participate in social network blogs (ie: Facebook) because they’re too over-opinionated and people take things WAY too personally but I realized that in this case, it was necessary. It seems to me that between all the “get rich quick schemes” and intense media speculation, these tend to lead to the everyday American taking unnessecary shortcuts (lazy) and thus resulting in overwhelming ignorance and slanderous statements such as those shown in some of your other bloggers. It’s unfortunate, but all you can do is say “Have a nice day!” =D

        Cheers

      • I feel if you are working full time have a family sometimes the fast easy way is the only way, as long as your family can sit down and enjoy a meal together, does it matter if you spend 15 min or 2-4 hours cooking and wearing your self out so not to actually enjoy your time with your family is ridiculous .
The time together is more important than the energy put into the end result. Anyways who anymore actually follows a recipe totally. As long as your meal is semi healthy, tasty, safe. and you can spend quality time with your family, do want you got to do, bring on the dump meals with your own interpretation on it.
You know thing have changed since 20 years ago………

  7. Sorry to disagree. I do A LOT of scratch cooking and am the proud owner of 4 Griswald skillets. Scratch is the best, no argument. But, do I have the time for a production dinner every night? No. I have made dump cakes for years. They taste great and are super easy. I use a crock pot frequently so I am looking forward to trying the dump dinners. Gee, I might have to stir it. Grow up, everything takes a little prep. If it”s only a stir, more power to me. Sorry to inform you but I even go to McDonalds on occasion. God forbid something new comes along. Do you still cook over an open campfire? If everyone resisted change like you we would be.

    • Don’t be sorry to disagree AL…..but I will never show up at your place for dinner. Not that you would extend an invitation to me….the wonderful EL BROOKMAN…..eating that McDonalds food on occasion must have destroyed the taste buds on your tongue. As for you not having time and have found DUMP COOKING to be your solution and if being only a “stir” gives you more power…..just imagine how much power you would have if you chop, dice, and think…..You could take over the world with your two friends Pinky & The Brain …AL baby, I am not resisting change….Dump Dinners is exactly as they promote it….I do not want my food DUMPED INTO A CHEAP ASS ORGREENIC SCAM FRY PAN without raw meat separation or chopping or stirring. You tell me ” it is the future and grow up”….It looks like it already came out of my ass, which means it is the past. AL, I love you taking the time to comment. I embrace change…. however I will always resist and not except incompetency, lack of quality, mass marketing dump scams, or the dumbing down of the American Public in what we eat, our lives, our health care, products we consume, or our government. …. Change is not sacrificing “Quality”….. Tell the truth Al, did you vote for Obama?

      • You know I have been reading these reviews from everybody and you people that keep blasting these dump cookbooks let me ask you have you even tried making any of the recipes? Before you started downgrading them and talking out the side of your necks. Don’t get me wrong I have’nt tried any of the dump recipes and I still do make stuff from scratch and I do it everynight after work for my daughter but I would at least keep an open mind about trying something new. I imagine this could be a hit and miss thing also some things may turn out good on some dishes and others you may not like or they may not come out right, same thing when your cooking from scratch or out of a box some things come out alright and some don’t come out like they are supposed to, it’s called trial & error people, all I’m saying is don’t knock it until you try it, so try some of them recipes maybe you can improve on them. So try some of the recipes, then you can at least make an educated statement based on your experience of trying it.

      • Elbrookman , byes I voted for Obama and I think he is three times the president that George W Bush was. Bush screwed this company up so badley and then left it for the next president. You think Mitt Romney would have made a better president? I grew up in Michigan when his father was govener and I remember what a horrible governer he was. I think Obama has done the very best he could with the stupid republican senate. Oh and about the dump dinners, if I can mke a quick and tasty meal after working all day and still have time with my family I think that is great. So quit being such an asshole and grow up!!!!

      • lmao….too funny Ms Brilliant…. I do not wish to have a political debate with you….simply because your argument is so flawed logically and inaccurate. Using the same reasoning that you used, no executive is held accountable… it is always someone else’s fault…..You were wrong about “Republican Senate”….. It has been a democratic Senate and was a democratic senate and house for the first few years of Obama’s Presidency…. And using your same logic…. The democrats have had the majority in the Senate and House for over 60 of the last 80 years…So who should you hold accountable?…..and the Presidency is an equal split between the parties…. Now Ms Brilliant, instead of being a jingoistic liberal democrat…. try to educate yourself and not listen to talking points and mantras the party says. Yes indeed Obama has a failed Presidency, a shame really when he had so much given to him to succeed..so much more than any other President in the last 50 years.. I wished he had succeeded…… I hope you do spend more time with your family because that is more important than anything else…even politics……… Enjoy those dump dinners Ms Brilliant…..Brilliant ! lol

        Kind Regards,
        EL

  13. I found the Dump Cakes @ Walmart and didn’t have tp pay the $7.99 S/H., and to get the Dump Dinners & the over-priced Orgrenic skillet, there’s another fee of $9.95 or .9.99 fee for that. I think that is misleading to tv viewers who thinks their getting all that for only $ 10. Not all the recipes are dump recipes and that is misleadjnf. I had thought of ordering the set and give the dessert book to my mother inlaw for her birthday, but you end up paying more than you want or need. Guess I’ll just buy one for her @ Walmart with the extra cost.

I love cooking healthy meals for my family and they most certainly enjoy eating them but I also love doing dump cakes for potlucks. Thank you for the convenient way of a quick fix for others to enjoy. As for desserts for my family, it will always be homemade and from the heart.

  17. I love how you managed to assume from the 10 seconds of the 2 minute commercial that I didnt stir the burger pasta mix, that I didnt use the leanest burger so there was very little fat and that I am feeding my family crap..I have been cooking for over 60 years, I am aware that a lot of families for lack of time or inclination, eat out or buy take out way more often than health or budget would reccomend. If I had the gift of more time I could show the recipes step by step but then there would be no need for a cookbook. I can only assure you that I practice the utmost awareness of healthy cooking in my kitchen, cook with heart health in mind and have NEVER had any complaints, reported illness, or complaints of any kind about the food I cook and feed my family and friends or the full recipes I share in my cookbooks.

  18. I know this is an old post, but I’m replying anyway. TBH,that…creature…named cathy mitchell, looks just like the kind of lazy, disgusting pig,who would rather push something called a dump meal, rather than promote healthy, well made meals, with decent ingredients&preperations. She likely does’nt know that you CAN indeed cook healthy, well prepared meals for a family, within a reasonable amount of time. Laziness,or having a family,is not an excuse, for eating dumpy meals, with ingredients like soda-pop+a ton of other sugary junk, etc.(which is not healthy for you OR your family). If you really want to&you manage your time well, you certainly CAN make time,to cook better meals, rather than junk that looks(&treats your body),like it did indeed come from a dirty dump(the name itself, does not help matters). People are incredibly lazy these days&not many of them seem all that interested in taking the time to proudly prepare a well-made meal for themselves or their children, anymore. Many people seem to take no pride in much of anything anymore&have little,if any, dignity or self-respect&certainly do not like putting much effort into much of anything, either. They live like slobs, dress like slobs(or worse)&now they think it’s wonderous&dignified,to eat like slobs. Don’t get me wrong,I myself prefer my meals to be ready to eat fast as well, but I’m also willing to put some effort into preparing them well, too. My comment may be considered harsh to some, but it is my honest opinion&thoughts,on the subject. Yes,I know…many people also dislike honesty. Too bad.
